"Planes, Trains and Automobiles" Home for Sale

 The home that Steve Martin's character Neal Page tries so desperately to get home to in time for Thanksgiving, including reluctantly teaming up with loudmouth Del Griffith (portrayed by John Candy)  in the 1987 comedy "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" is currently for sale.   The house is featured at the very end of the movie when Neal Page arrives home and in the spirit of Thanksgiving, invites Del Griffith to join him despite all of the grief he has put him through.

Chicago Now indicates it is located at 230 Oxford Road, in Kenilworth, IL for $1.7 million and that the  "6-bedroom home has three full and two half baths, a 3-car garage on a 90 x 160 lot within two blocks of Lake Michigan" along with the prior listed and selling price.

FEAR.NET - FREE ON DEMAND MOVIES FOR OCTOBER

If you are a cable subscriber you may have access to Fear.net on demand movies for free and they also have free movies online line.

A few worth watching are:

2001 Joyride is a thriller/drama starring Paul Walker and Steve Zahn, which play brothers, with Leelee Sobieski as the love interest on a road trip that goes wrong after messing with the wrong trucker on CB radio.  It relies more on the interaction of the characters than shock value and gore.

1999 horror/comedy Idle Hands featuring Devon Sawa as a stoner teenager where his idle hand is possessed to murder with his love interest being a young Jessica Alba.  Not award winning and there are several continuity errors, but is a different twist on teen slasher films.

2002 horror/comedy R.S.V.P. had more of an old school feel where is relies more on the story than actual gore to entice you to wonder which of the characters will be bumped off next and who is the culprit.  It is a lower budget movie, with probably the best know actor in it being Jason Mewes of "Jay and Silent Bob" fame, but better than bigger budget movies in its genre

2005 drama/horror Boogeyman with Barry Watson as Tim, a boy who saw the "Boogeyman" take his father as a child and has had a phobia of the dark ever since (his love interest is portrayed by Emily Deschanel, now better know as Temperance Brennan, the bone lady on on "Bones").   It is one of those films where you love or hate it - worth a watch to find out which camp you are in.

Halloween Videos for That You Might Not Think to Watch

While there is the standard blockbusters, like Dawn to The Dead and the Nightmare on Elmstreet, Jason and Mike Myers "Halloween" movies here are some lesser known and older films to watch.

DISTURBING BEHAVIOR - Rated R

Steve's family moves to an island off the coast after his brother commits suicide, but something isn't quite right with the too perfect teens that inhabit the town.   Watch and find out what that is.  Has Katie Holmes before she was Mrs. Tom Cruise, James Marsden before he was an X-Men and Nick Stahl before he was John

Connor. 

THE FACULTY - Rated R

This time it is a girl, Marybeth, that moves into town and befriends a small group of students that notice something is not quite right with the teachers of the school.

FEAR OF THE DARK - Rated PG 13

12 year old Ryan is terrified of the dark after his pals play a prank on him and on one dark, stormy night his teen brother, Dale, is left to watch him while their parents go out to a party.   Then the power goes out and the house goes dark and Ryan's terror starts to become a reality.

SHAUN OF THE DEAD - Rated R

Electronics salesman Shaun's deadend life gets even deader when the town starts turning into zombies.  It is a romantic comedy buddy zombie movie all rolled into one.

FEAST  - Rated R



















Patrons in a bar battle human munching monsters.   While this sounds predictable, the charactors and the plot twists are not...you never know who is going to be next for "dinner".

GINGERSNAPS

Puberty had teen sisters Ginger and Bridgit were death obsessed even before Ginger is bitten by a werewolf in the park.

MIMIC - Rated R

Dr. Susan Tyler sucessfully genetically engineered a bug, the Judas breed, to infect and kill virus carrying cockroaches that had been infecting children.  The Judas breed was engineered to be sterile and die off but three years later people start disappearing and it turns out the bugs have evolved to mimic their only predator - us!.

DEAD SILENCE - Rated R

This is a lesser know movie that was written by Leigh Whannel, the writer/creater of the original "Saw" movie that is just a creative with the twists and turns of the plot.  Jamie Ashen's wife receives a mysterious ventriloquist in the mail and is gruesomely murdered.  Jamie then retuns to his hometown, Raven Falls, where the package the doll was sent from to try find out why and the story of Mary Shaw, a ventriloquist in the 40's that was hunted downed and murdered and buried will all of her ventriloquist dummies after it is suspected that she kidnapped and killed a boy that yelled out she was a fraud during one of her ventriloquist performances.

Halloween Videos To Rent For Kids and Tweens

These are likely available for rent at your local video store,  might be available to check out from  local library, or on Youtube.

Monsters, Inc.

Something adults as well as children can enjoy; it has different worlds colliding, development of a relationship, friendships and corporate greed.  

Monstropolis is powered by the screams that the monsters bottle up by going through children's closet doors in the middle of the night, but find out what happens when a loveable little girl follows top scarer Sully back in to Monsters, Inc.

Wallace and Gromit in 
"The Curse of the Were-rabbit"

British claymation at its best and once again Wallace's inventions getting them into trouble and Gromit coming to the rescue.  This is a movie that the whole family can enjoy watching.

Its The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

A non-scary Halloween classic the whole family can enjoy.  This was something we looked forward to watching every year when I was kid back in the olden days when there were only 3 TV channel and no VCRs, DVD or TIVO.

Garfield's Halloween Adventure

Another non-scary story with Amercia's favorite lovable sarcastic cat, Garfield.

The Haunting Hour: Don't Think About It

From the creator of the "Goosebumps" series that stars Emily Osment from Hanna Montana and Tobin Bell, who plays Jigsaw in the "Saw" movies.   While my son enjoyed the "Goosebumps" series when he was younger, I usually didn't like watching them, but we both enjoyed watching this movie

Sort of like a milder version of the 3 Stooges, except with witches.
