Resource Furniture: Italian-Designed Space Saving Furniture

As city living spaces get smaller and smaller, having multi-functional furniture will become increasingly important selling point.

This is a video interview by Core 77  with Ron Barth, President of Resource Furniture, a  New-York-based company, which distributes Italian brand Clei featuring space-saving mulit use transforming furniture, such as artwork to a bed, coffee table to dining table, ac couch to a bed and storage cabinet to a bed.

What is impressive and different with these pieces that your typical Murphy bed is the ease of which the pieces transform and that you don't have to move everything out of the way to make the transformation, like the desk to bed at :55 into the video - all of the items on the desk are left in place and the bed comes down over the top of them.

HÜBLER Table - Concrete Desk with Built-In Bookshelves

This would be a mover's nightmare as it is made out of concrete and topped with glass.
I found this via Doornob.  It is by manufacturer manufacturer IVANKA and artist János Hübler and although it is meant to be functional, it is also and artistic piece - to quote the article at Doornob "Part of the idea is to show the balance of ‘fixed’ history and our more ‘fluid’ writings about factual events, which evolve and shift as our understanding of historic happenings changes over time.

I don't know why, but for some reason it creeps me out and reminds me too much of the puzzle box from the "Hellraiser" movies.  I would be afraid to pull out a book lest the next thing I knew, Pinhead would be in my living room.

FURNITURE MADE OF BOXES

Ever wonder what to do with all those boxes that you get from your Ebay (The World's Biggest Garage Sale!) purchases?

Fear no more, you are not just limited to having the kiddies transform them into to Father's Day treasure boxes for your ex/their Daddy using the gold spray paint (left over from your flower box project where you painted the cast off auto & truck tires and put those fake plastic flowers from old boyfriends into to create a personal statement for your yard) and jewels (actually, left over earrings where you could only find one the next day after going on a bender during your drinking days) you can transform them into useful, practical furniture!

If you start saving up those boxes now, you will have enough to make both of these lovely projects in time for your nephew's graduation from high school or your niece's shotgun wedding reception, which ever comes first.

Check out this website for complete instructions for these lovely items and also a bed and couch.
