A staple of any 4th of July celebration is sparklers and Photojojo has a tutorial on how you can add sparkle and pizazz to you 4th of July photos by light painting using sparklers.
They also have an article with 11 Tips for Sparkling Fireworks Photos. I didn't even realize my camera had a fireworks setting until I read the article and checked it out and it advised turning off the flash mode.
