This was spotted at an auto show at a festival.  The Plymouth Sport Fury is the 3rd generation of the Plymouth Fury and smaller than its predecessors.

As there were not many made and they are rather rare.  Per a plaque on the front of the car:

  • Production Totals for 1963 Plymouth Sport Fury Convertible:   3,836
  • Cost New (in 1963):  $3,082.00

9/11 Rolling Memorials

In remembrance of all who lost their lives ten years ago during the terrorist attack on our home soil, I thought it fitting to post some of the "rolling" memorials that are out there.

This is from The Car Connection
""Our friend trucker John Holmgren of Shafer, Minnesota, who we got to know during our time down at the World Trade Center, has dedicated his truck as a 'Rolling Memorial' to all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. He painted their names on his truck cab and trailer, which are shown in the pictures below."

9 News has a video on their website of 5 cameros that have been decorated to honor the fallen.  They were the concept of Kevyn Major Howard, founder of the "Fueled by the Fallen" organization, whb is best known for portraying "Rafterman" in Stanley Kubrick's "Full Metal Jacket" (although I liked  him better as "Rudyard Kipling" in "Alien Nation"

DUO & NMG - ELECTRIC VEHICLES FOR SHORT COMMUTES

With gas prices on the rise, this cute little vehicles would be great for short commutes.

The name of this vehicle in NMG, an ancronym for "No More Gas" and they are made Myers Motors . It is a one seat trike that can go up to 80 miles an hour, and touts that you can drive 1,000 miles on $20 of electric juice that you can plug into any standard 110 volt outlet to recharge

The Duo stands for "Does Use Oil" and is a two seat vehicle that is currently a concept car that pre-orders are being accepted currently.

The upside is that they are "green" with no emissions as they are total electric and less money would be spent to power them.

Also the NMG is classified as a motorcycle and can drive in HOV carpool lanes and park in motorcycle designated spaces and ferry privileges.  If there is no authorized dealer in the area, the company offers advice to local mechanics on how to repair.

The downside would be they are designed for short commutes of around 40-60 miles before needing to be recharged and as cold will slow down any battery, it would impact the range before needing recharged.  But on the other hand, they are front wheel drive and on their website it indicated their president drove his to work everyday in the snow except when there was a snow emergency and no non-essential vehicles were allowed on the road.

As they are unique and unusual in today's environment and cute, they would garner a lot of attention and would be great for promoting a small business by putting the logo and phone number on the sides.

Another would be the price - currently between around $25-$30,000 it is a higher than a gas counterpart would be, but in addition to the savings over time by using electric fuel over gas, some states offer tax breaks and incentives and the more popular they become, the more likely they are going to go down in price as it will cheaper to make them.

DIY'ED PIMPED RIDE

About 8 years ago my son spotted these fellas a drive-thru and my son went over and asked them about their DIY'ed pimped ride.

They had started with a Olds Cutlass and chopped off the top of it, painted it with a glittery green spray paint and lined the car with green velvet.  There is a mini fridge in the back seat, along with a television.

The also changed out the standard steering wheel for a chain link one and installed a CD and DVD player.

They also added tricked our rims

They also put a chain link around the license plate.

The grill was still a work in process.

DON'T SPEED, TEXT AND DRIVE

The guy that drove his car and went airborne, hitting where the bullseye with a phone is pasted on this picture, found out the hard way it is not smart to speed, text and drive.

Fortunately, the occupants of the car were not seriously injured, but did take some verbal lashing and the police from the locals for their misdeeds causing a power outage right around dinner time on a hot summer day.   The passenger of the car was very quick to give it up to the police that the driver had been speeding (50 mph in a 25 mph zone), texting and driving but before missing the sharp curve and going airborne knocking the utility pole in half and and thankfully getting stopped by the guide wire or he might have plowed into the home that was nearby.

Building a Better Mousetrap...Making It Into A Mousetrap Car

Our Mouse Trap Car from Michelle Mitton at Scribbit on Vimeo.

I am not a fan of mousetraps per se as they seem inhumane, but the use of this mousetrap, along with 4 old CDs, 2 pens, 2 bolts, string and 6 balloons to make a mousetrap car is so McGuyerish that it rocks.

Snow Foot Car

Not only does this look cool aesthetically, it turns an ordinary car into a aerosleigh in an hour.

The official site is http://www.snowfootcar.com/ . It is a Russian invention and the link to this is in that language, but here is the translation into English.

"Device intended for transforming the usual automobile into the aerosleigh. In the usual automobile they are placed from 5 to 7 people, who can be moved on the snowy virgin soil with the comfort and in the heat.
The time of the re-equipment of usual automobile into the aerosleigh occupies 1 hour, in this case into the automobile it is introduced no changes and subsequently it can be used as a usual automobile on the roads of general use.

Device possesses high reliability by its caused simplicity.
Advantages over the usual aerosleigh:
1. Comfortable conditions
2. Smaller consumption of fuel
3. A quantity of passengers to 7 (depending on the stamp of auto-) are used low-pressure tires.".

This would be great to have for locations that get a lot of snow!
