ONE OF THE "GOLDEN GIRLS" WAS ONE OF THE FIRST FEMALE MARINES

A post on Boredom Therapy pointed out the Bea Arthur, best known for her role at Dorothy "The Golden Girls", at TV Sitcom on the air from 1985-1992 that featured 4 women in their "golden years" living together in Miami, was once of the first Female Marines in the U.S, serving for nearly 3 years during World War II.

Thesmokinggun.com indicates she enlisted in 1943 when she was 21 years old and worked as  a lab tech, drove a truck and worked as a typist while in the Marine Corp..
