Underwater Sea Creature Sculptures

While these look like the shell of an exotic sea creature, they are actually sculptures by Japanese artist, Noriko Kuresumi

The details and textures with the contrast of smooth shapes make them interesting to look at by every angle.

The artist statement is:
"The sea is the origin of life.
All lives are connected and have been supporting each other.
I create my work by imagining the source of harmony and balance of the ocean."

Giant Bug Sculptures

Source: rsabg.org via Kathryn on Pinterest

I spotted this at David Lowe Design where is blogged about giant insect sculptures by David Rogers that are currently on display at  Rancho Santa Ana Botanical Garden  and I concur that they remind you of things you would see in 50's horror movies, many of which were riffed on by one of the best shows ever to hit the airwaves, Mystery Science Theater 3000 that turned outdated and bad movies into hysterical comedy, one-line zingers at a time.

From the sculptor, David Roger's blog:

"The sculptures are created using various combinations of whole trees found standing or fallen dead, cut green saplings selectively harvested from the willow family, dry branches, and other forest materials.
The inherent uniqueness of these materials: their different shapes, colors and textures provide these sculptures with character, definition, and a sense of motion.

Since its debut in 1994 at the Dallas Arboretum, the Big Bugs exhibit has traveled all across the USA. It consistently brings in swarms (indeed!) of new audiences to all the venues it visits. It provides a visually stunning platform for educational programs and interaction, one of the main goals of the Big Bugs exhibit. Big Bugs also has the effect of helping create greater public awareness of its host institution as a fun and interesting year-round educational resource, with a concomitant boost in attendance."
