Free Downloadable Halloween Fonts

Hello and welcome to Countdown to Halloween!

To gear up for Halloween, you might want to take advantage of some of the free downloadable Halloween fonts that are available for use in invitations, newsletters, fliers, signs and crafts.

Warm Hot Chocolate has a roundup of the 16 different free Halloween fonts below and links to obtain them here.

The above is A Gothic Time

Fontenstein has "A Castle Full of Free Halloween Fonts" and after checking them out, you will see their castle is humongous.  To the left is an example of just a few that pop up if you click on the letter "G" to check out all the fonts that are named starting with that letter.

Fontspace
has a nice selection of downloadable Halloween fonts, such as "Face Your Fears", "Toxia" and "Zombie Holocaust".

Zombie Font is a website where you type in what you want to say in Zombie on their site and it will turn your letters into letter zombies and you can save it.

The instructions on how to download vary by source so please be sure to read each sites instructions, but in general,  per the dafont, for all you need to download and unzip, but it then depend on the type of system that you have.

  • Windows 7/Vista: Right-click on the font files > "Install"
  • Windows XP: Put the font files into C:\Windows\Fonts
  • Mac OS X: Double-click the font file > "Install font" button.

Come back tomorrow for more ghoulish treats and be sure to check out the other participants of "Countdown to Halloween" and Happy Hauntings!

FREE EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE - BEN'S GUIDE TO U.S. GOVERNMENT FOR KIDS

Photos:  Ben's Guide to U.S. Government for Kids

Learning about the government can range from dull to daunting, but Ben's Guide to U.S. Government for Kids is a free site sponsored by the US government with free resources using Ben Franklin as a guide for grades K-12 with parent and teacher resources as well.

Some activities are online, others are printables and several are links to other free sites online that are interactive or printable.

Activities range from an interactive matching game to match states shapes for grades K-2 (left) to tracking the bill history of the International Dolphin Conservation Act. to showing high schoolers how laws are made by tracking the bill history of the  International Dolphin Conservation Act.

It could be used as a supplement to reinforcing or clarifying what a student has learned in the classroom, or it could be used in creating lesson plans for home schoolers, such as the this one on Civics for K-2 created by Nicole Thrifty Decorating.

FREE PRINTABLE GIFT TAG ROUNDUP

Although in recent years we have been going more toward using recycled materials to wrap presents, but to dress them up some time I like to use printed tags and I thought I would share a roundup of several that I have found and intend on using.

If you have any to share, please feel free to post the link in the comments section.

Illustrator Mark Fearing has 3 cat/dog themed tags here (but the one to the left is my favorite).

Print Our Christmas Stuff For Free has a nativity scene tag that says "Merry Christmas here.

Jamie Cooks It Up  has the colorful red, white and green tags to the left in different sizes to download here.

Disney Family has 12 Mickey and Firends tags here.

Organizing Home has different sets of tags

Lollychops six unique round Christmas tags here.

Life As Mom has three different printable tags here.

Sunny Vanilla has a template that your print on scrapbook paper to achieve this look (and it would also save on printer ink) here.

Living Locurto has the tags on the left here.

Orange You Lucky has the cute labels to the left here.

My Owl Barn has the tags on the left available here.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS:)

Note:  All of the above are for personal use only

ELF YOURSELF FOR FREE

From now until 12/31/11, Office Max  is sponsoring where you can pick a theme/dance and Elf Yourself and up to four other people (or you could upload all five of yourself) and post Facebook or send a link via email for free (however, if you want to download a copy to keep, it will cost $5 - links posted or send only active until 1/12/12).

To the left is a list of the different types of dances/themes that are available and you can sample each before deciding which one to send.

I chose "Disco Elves" and if you want to see an example of how the finished project looked, click Disco Elves.

Shortly after I sent link, I received via email a coupon for $10 off $30 at OfficeMax (In-Store only) if you have an OfficeMax near you and looking for office type gifts for someone.  I checked their Store Locator and the closest is nearly 50 miles away, so I will be passing on this, but wanted to let others know in case it could help them check off one more thing on their list.

Happy Holiday:)

Disclaimer:  I have no affiliation with Office Max or JibJab and have received nothing for this post - just think it is fun.

BRUSHster - Free online abstract drawing tool

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

As kids are going to be out of school the next few days, I thought I would share this free online boredom buster with everyone called BRUSHster.  It is from Federal Resources for Excellence in Education (National Art Gallery) and has over 40 different brushstrokes and a wide range of palette colors with effect to blur and fragment and even has an auto feature that might help get them started and grasp the concept of abstract.   It also has the option to save and print their finished works of art.  I am calling the above "Happy Thanksgiving Soon to be Ex-sanguinated Turkey".

While you can draw figures, it gets a bit tricky and wouldn't recommend trying it off the bat as they will get to frustrated unless they can go with the flow.  The first one below was going to be a turkey and started looking like a duck, so duck it is...calling it "Duck Day Afternoon" and I think it turned out Refrigerator posting worthy.
This drawing I am calling "Microscopic Virus" and started with the auto tool, then added more lines and the thing in the upper right hand corner is to represent an eyeball.

As my idea to have Tofurkey was shot down again this year, I will be fixing a turkey roast this year.   I am personally not a turkey or chicken eater as I grew up hearing horror stories from my mother about raising and butchering the beasts when she was growing up.  I won't share them here; instead, here is a link to the USDA's "Be Safe - Don't Cross-Contaminate" printable information sheet.

To visit BRUSHster, click here.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

FREE SPOOKY STAR WARS SOUNDS MP3 DOWNLOAD FOR HALLOWEEN

If you want to add some spooky yet geeky background music for your Halloween, The Official Star Wars blog has a free spooky download on their site that runs for around 18 minutes.

The downside is that you would need to have Quicktime Pro in order to save it; however, I downloaded the free version of Quicktime 7.7.1 (you can Google Quicktime 7.7.1 & free) and just played it from my computer.
