Although this is might seem geared more towards doomsday preppers, in areas of a country that it is extremely hot, or perhaps even someday colonizing Mars, it would be cooler than living above ground.  

One thing that would be hard to get used to besides the lack of privacy and feelings of claustrophobia would be not having an outdoor view and sunlight.
