SUPER MARIO BASSOON QUARTET

A friend's daughter s hared this on Facebook and I normally cringe at the mere mention of the word "Bassoon" (they don't call it the "clown" instrument for nothing) as my brother played on when he was in band in Junior High, but this is geeky cool.

The narrative indicates it is by the Oberlin bassoon quartet and there are 12 samplings of different Mario games tunes.

These were spotted at My Owl Barn and they are by C. Owen Smith at Wild Pulp and creates them by photographing wood and then hand cutting at template to capture the spirit of the animal. I have not seen this idea before and love the thought of photographing something in nature and turning it into another cutout image.

Amazing Anatomical Paper Torso

These are the creation of Horst Kiechle, an Austrailian architect know for his "archisculptures," that he crafts out of card paper models that are a cross between architecture and sculpture.

The torso, created entirely out of card paper, has removable organs and was made for the Science Lab of the International School Nadi, Fiji.

KRIS KARDASHIAN JENNER'S 1985 MUSIC VIDEO

If you look at the title and scratch your head and think "Wow, I didn't know she sang" after listening, rest assured, you will find out she doesn't. As a precaution, I would recommend turning on your mute button before watching the video. As one commenter posted she is "the original Rebecca Black".

Apparently she made this to commemorate her 30th birthday and it is set to Randy Newman's "I Love LA" except she changed the words to "I Love My Friends". While of course if features 3 of her clan of daughters, it is like one long advertisement to say "look how many famous people I know and how popular I am" with not only her "friends" singing but a montage of photos of her with famous people, such as Michael Jackson. Even stranger, she sings about going to bible studies...you couldn't tell it by her daughter's behaviors. Even stranger still, O. J. Simpson has a cameo. Probably the best thing is the homeless guy at 3:35 that looks like he is cussing her out as she drives by him.

The "Everything" Play Table - a fabulous low cost DIY present for a child!

This "Everything Table" was created by Craftser user leighi123 (and the winner of the Handmade Holiday Gifts for Kids 2 challenge) that she crafted for her 4 year old son for Christmas using an old shoe rack, wood and felt and integrating a few other items and toys.

Not only could this be made at a minimal cost, it also takes up minimal space (see last picture).

The little fella above is not an "albino"; it just has reduced pigmentation; the photographer, David Stephens advised:

I love vintage artwork and excited that the Library of Congress has available on Flickr 25 vintage WPA posters.

"The 25 posters selected for this set come from the Library’s collection of over 900 WPA posters. (WPA meaning first Works Progress Administration, then Work Projects Administration.) The original silkscreen, lithograph, and woodcut posters were produced between 1936 and 1943 as part of one of the first U.S. Government programs to support the arts. The posters, typically 22 x 14 inches in size, promoted exhibits, community activities, and health, safety, and educational programs."

This one is my favorite and is socially applicable today as it was 76 years ago.

First Metor Shower of 2012 to Occur January 4th

If you are a night owl and up during the early morning hours Thursday morning you could catch the first meteorite shower of the year.

Science Daily is reporting that the shower will occur on January 4th, starting around 3 a.m. expected to last around two and could drop up to 100 meteorites an hour.

The shower, called "Quadrantids" is from an asteroid called 2003 EH1 and it has been postulated that the asteroid is from a comet that disintegrated several centuries ago.

NORAD TRACKS SANTA - FIND OUT WHERE SANTA IS RIGHT NOW

Ever since I was young NORAD has tracked the wherabouts of Santa; back then we would watch on our black and white television and see where he was currently delivering presents. With the advent of the internet they also started posting updates online and when my son was young we would check online in addition to catching updates on newscasts, but now you can also track Santa on Google Earth for a more interactive experience.

As and example, I clicked on where Santa was and he and his reindeer clan were Jerusalem, Israel. It provides additional option of looking at additional photos, read more about or zoom into the location.

When you click out of it you are shown Santa and the reindeer flying to their next destination and how many gifts have been delivered.

MOON ROCKS MISSING

MSNBC reported in the video below that of the 842 pounds of moon rocks or dust have were brought back from the moon but a recent audit shows that 517 missing, stolen or unaccounted for.

This past summer the docudrama Apollo 18 was released where allegedly there was an unknown to the public an 18th Apollo mission that was not reported due to strange happenings on the moon and the astronauts being taken over by creatures that appeared to look like harmless moon rocks.

In September of this year, one that had been missing for 30 years was found among Bill Clinton's files at an Arkansas library. That would explain a lot about him and some of his behaviors.

While it is postulated that many samples may have just been misplaced or lumps of coal crafted into cute tchotchkes to give to those that are super naughty each year.

So remember, Santa is watching, so you had better be good for goodness sake!

BRUSHster - Free online abstract drawing tool

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

As kids are going to be out of school the next few days, I thought I would share this free online boredom buster with everyone called BRUSHster. It is from Federal Resources for Excellence in Education (National Art Gallery) and has over 40 different brushstrokes and a wide range of palette colors with effect to blur and fragment and even has an auto feature that might help get them started and grasp the concept of abstract. It also has the option to save and print their finished works of art. I am calling the above "Happy Thanksgiving Soon to be Ex-sanguinated Turkey".

While you can draw figures, it gets a bit tricky and wouldn't recommend trying it off the bat as they will get to frustrated unless they can go with the flow. The first one below was going to be a turkey and started looking like a duck, so duck it is...calling it "Duck Day Afternoon" and I think it turned out Refrigerator posting worthy.

This is actually a promo for Fazoli's, but it is clever and I've joked with my son that when he goes off to college if he is missing Mom's meals, all he has to do is go to Fazoli's. This flying alarm clock is on sale at Daily Steals today only for $4.99 + shipping (although it is available on other sites also such as Think Geek and Amazon) and it encourages the user, and in the video, a young lad, to get out of bed in the morning because he has to in order to turn off the whirling copter disc and it can finish waking him up by amusing and entertaining him.

While this sound like a fun, yet practical and inexpensive Christmas gift for a youngster, it also looks like it has even greater potential - it could be the beginning of the next viral cat video on Youtube.

As I am a cat lover, it does look like a cute coffee table book but I know from personal experience in dressing up cats when I was a kid that they don't take too kindly to it. Usually if they saw me coming towards them with a doll dress they scampered under the dresser to hide, and you can see the same look in the eyes of the cats in the behind the scenes video for the book below. It says "I will pay you back for this; I will climb your curtains, claw your furniture and paw cat litter all over the floor. Yesterday I posted 10 fab celebrity costumes, but today venturing to the other end of the spectrum - the fails.

Celebrity Stylist Rachel Zoe - not even sure what she is supposed to be - Pocahontas? A hippie? A character from "Cats"? Lindsey Lohan bail jumping disguise to blend in on an Indian reservation?

I wonder if Anne Hathway actually meant to looks like "Grandma's Gone Wild".

Not only is there the confusion of what she is trying to accomplish with goth Lady GaGa looking bow on her head, the not quite Batman mask paired with a Cher character with the boring beige pumps, the jumpsuit make her look fat.

And what the heck is that under her left arm? Is she being attacked by a porcupine?

Brad Pitt has never looked so unappealing. His costume that is supposed to be DJ Lance Rock from "Yo Gabba Gabba" looks more like Colonel Sanders on acid.

Judy Garland is rolling over in her grave at Jason Biggs interpretation of Dorothy in the "Wizard of Oz".

Toto looks like a mini-Cujo and if a fella is going to do drag, they need to be clean shaven. With his features and a shave, he could have totally pulled off Judy's daughter, Liza Minnelli...or if he didn't want to shave, drawn on a beard and mustache, a shiner to his eye, a pillow to his belly and don an ugly suit added and gone as Minnelli's ex, David Gest

When my son was young we had an arrangement that Mom would get a 1/3 of the candy as a handling fee for taking him Trick or Treating, but even then sometime he would get more candy than either of us could possibly eat and I would end up taking it to work and putting it in a bowl.

If you find yourself in this situation after Halloween some dentists (sometimes teaming up with area businesses) are "buying" candy in exchange for toothbrushes, toothpaste or coupons and then the candy is sent to overseas troops as a treat for them, so it is a win-win situation.

New York resident Sorceress Cagliastro in is bringing back the lost art mummification for departed pets that weight up to 100 pound for between $800-$4,000.

The end results vary depending on the customer's request and can be a :

"simple linen wrap all the way up to painted with semi-precious metals, decorated with heirloom jewelry or, say, a scrolled up piece of parchment put inside."

She became interested in mummification after being in a bad car accident 15 years ago and her prior career path of forensic reconstruction for the chief medical examiner's office and an embalmer for funeral homes well prepared her to branch into the journey into mummification 5 years ago when she started experimenting with salts on a chicken. She now does around 10 project a week and even teaches others the lost art.
